The forthcoming 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), a franchise-based Twenty20 cricket competition in India, will be called the TATA IPL 2023. Other names for the league include IPL-16 and IPL-2023 . The Board of Control for Cricket in India owns and runs it (BCCI). A defending champion is Gujarat Titans.
After a gap of 4 years caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic and the previous 3 seasons being played at neutral sites, the IPL will resume its traditional Home and Away format starting with this season. The ten teams will play their home matches at their chosen venues across the country.
Starting with this season, Viacom18’s Jio Cinema app will stream it online for the following five years, while Star Sports will do the same on Indian television. This season, the participating team will have the option of asking the third umpire to review no-balls and wide balls.
Background
Before to the season, the BCCI created an Impact Player rule. In addition to the starting XI, teams can name four impact players or substitutes for a game. Throughout the game, one of these may be substituted in. Using DRS, which was made available in the WPL, teams can now review wides and no-balls.
Exciting news from the world of Indian Premier League! Let me update you on the latest personnel changes that have taken place.
In November 2022, Shikhar Dhawan became the new captain of Punjab Kings, taking over from Mayank Agarwal. Additionally, Trevor Bayliss replaced Anil Kumble as the team’s head coach.
In August 2022, Chandrakant Pandit was appointed as the new head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders, replacing Brendon McCullum. Similarly, Brian Lara took over from Tom Moody as the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Now, let’s talk about the IPL auction that happened on 23 December 2022 in Kochi. It was an exciting event, with teams bidding fiercely for their preferred players. The highlight of the auction was the sale of Sam Curran, who was bought by Punjab Kings for a whopping ₹18.50 crore (equivalent to US$2.3 million). This makes him the most expensive player in the history of the IPL.
